Owners: Sam, Maryann & Phil
In business since 1933, this Morris County steakhouse has always been a fixture in the community. Sammy's has outlived many other restaurants and the Prohibition to become a landmark in these parts. In the Fornaro family for over 60 years, it is now run by third generation family members, Maryann, Phil & Sam Fornaro. Together with their long-tenured staff, they delight patrons with welcoming hospitality, fine continental fare and a unique atmosphere.
The handmade wooden bar downstairs dates back to the 1920's prohibition era, when Sammy's was a speakeasy.
"That's half the mystique. It's a 1920's roadhouse," said Phil Fornaro. "You can't duplicate this."
Also unique to Sammy's is the ordering process, designed to minimize your wait and ensure that each meal presented is perfectly timed & prepared:
Upon entering the restaurant you proceed to the hostess station where your order is placed from the menu on the wall. You are then directed to the downstairs bar which is equipped with video games and a bumper pool table. The bartenders will inform you when your dinner is ready. Upon your return to the dining room, you are directed to your table by one of the waitstaff to find our freshly made salad (served homestyle) waiting for you. Your dinner is to follow shortly.
